Maintenance and support

Website maintenance and support, from Italy and remotely

A website is not a painting hung on a wall: it is a program running on a server, with a theme and a dozen extensions that get updated every week. If nobody keeps an eye on them, one day it stops working, and it always happens at the worst possible moment. I take care of that, even if I did not build the site.

What I do:

How it works

It starts with a check-up, and I tell you the result even if you then give the work to somebody else

Maintenance is not a subscription you pay for and never see. It is something that gets measured: what was updated, what broke, how fast the site is today compared with last month.

First a check-up, free of charge

I look at how it is built right now: versions, extensions, backups, certificates, security, speed. I tell you in writing what is wrong, even if somebody else ends up doing the work.

Icon

Backup before touching anything

Always, even for something small. If an update breaks something you go back in five minutes instead of spending the evening working out what happened.

Icon

Updates one piece at a time

Not all together with one click: one at a time, checking the site after each one. It is the only way to know which one did the damage.

Icon

Checking the site still works

The pages that matter, the contact form, the basket if there is one. An update that breaks nothing visible may have broken the form, and you do not find out for a month.

Icon

A report you can understand

What I did, what I found, what I recommend, in plain language. No lists of version numbers that mean nothing to somebody who is not technical.

Icon

Urgent work

If the site goes down you do not wait your turn: it gets dealt with immediately, and afterwards we work out why it happened so it does not happen again.

Icon

Small changes included in the service

Changing an opening time, a price, a photo, adding a product. These are the things it makes no sense to quote for every time.

Even if I did not build the site. That is half the requests I get: somebody built the site years ago and cannot be found any more, or can be found but does not reply. The first check-up is there precisely to work out where you stand: sometimes tidying up is enough, sometimes rebuilding is the better buy, and I tell you which with the numbers in front of you.

A backup that does not restore is not a backup. It is the thing I find most often: there is an extension saving somewhere, nobody has ever tried to put the site back together from those files, and on the day it is needed it does not work. In the initial check-up I run that test.

If the site does not exist yet, start from the website design page. And if the problem is not the site but the computer, the email or the documents, have a look at digital help.

Frequently Asked Questions

And if you only want to know what state your site is in, ask for the check-up: it is free.

Yes, and it is half the work I do. The first check-up is for exactly that: understanding how a site I do not know is built, and telling you what state it is in, before taking on any commitment.

It depends how big the site is and how often you want me to look at it: a five-page brochure site and an online shop with three hundred products are not the same work. The initial check-up is free and it is also there to tell you what it would cost.

You write to me on WhatsApp or you call, and it gets dealt with straight away, without waiting your turn. Then we work out why it went down, because a site that falls over twice for the same reason is my problem, not yours.

Yes, and they are included: changing an opening time, a price, a photo, adding a product. At handover I also show you how to do them yourself, if you prefer: a site that needs me every time an opening time changes is a badly built site.

It depends how it is built, and I see that in the initial check-up. WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify are the ones I work with every day; if it is a hand-written site or on a closed platform I tell you straight away rather than having a go.

Maintenance is almost entirely remote work, so I do it for clients anywhere. In person I am based in Abruzzo, in central Italy, and I travel from there when somebody needs a computer looked at or wants to do things side by side.
